Podtrac Analytics - Setting Up Podtrac on Squarespace - 2019 - 2020 (UPDATED)

How to set up your Podcast analytics on Squarespace using Podtrac Analytics - Updated steps for set up 2019 & 2020

I had posted a earlier this year but it seems that Squarespace decided to make some changes to how their system handles podcasts, particularly external linking for podcast tracking (again). Now I know some of you are having some issues with the media basically showing up empty after following the Podtrac & SquareSpace instructions. I had this too and I contacted Robert @ Podtrac who solved all of those issues for me. So here goes. Hope this helps you too.

Now that SquareSpace added the URL entry box for Podcast analytics (third party) tracking it’s much easier to get Podtrac properly set up to track each episode.

  1. Add in your audio block to your blog post, then upload your media file like usual.

2.  Once the audio file has finished uploading, navigate to the "Design" Tab in the "Audio" Block and make sure that you check the "Show Download" option. Apply the settings to the audio block and save the post like usual.

3. Once you have saved the post right click on the "download" link on the audio block and copy the link address.

4. Now that you have copied the link address open up your notepad and paste the entire address

5. Navigate to the  Podtrac.com dashboard and select your podcast name.

6. Copy the address highlighted from their "Measurement Service" page

7. Navigate back to your notepad where you have pasted your podcast download link address and paste the Podtrac address in the beginning of the Podcast download link

8. Delete the "http://" or the “https://” from the podcast download link in front of “static” hightlighted in the example shown below

9. You can now keep the ending of the podcast download link (everything after the "MP3/" segment)

Example shown below: "?download=true" so do not delete this.

10. Copy the entire address including the Podtrac address. Navigate to your audio block again in your blog post in Squarespace.

11. Select the "Edit" option on the podcast episode that you are trying to track

12. Hover over the "Audio" block on your podcast episode and click "Edit"

13. Navigate to the Podcasting Tab then scroll all the way down & paste the entire address from your notepad into the "Podcast Analytics URL" entry area, fill out the rest of the information (length, season #, Episode # etc) like usual.

14.  Click Apply and save the blog post & publish! That should be it if you have any issues please comment below and I'll see if I can help!
